Before I'm off for a weekend in the mountains, here's a nice papercut illustration by Lobulo. I received the link from my cousin, who provides me with links even when I'm too busy or too tired to switch on my laptop and check what's going on in the worl. Jeff Nishinaka

If you like paper work by Peter Callesen (featured here and here) as much as I do, then you must explore amazing paper sculptures by Jeff Nishinaka. Nishinaka is an LA artist who initially began as a painter and started to work with paper by accident. Isn't it great that such accidents in life happen? He says paper to him is a living thing, with its own energy that he only tries to point in a good direction. It's hard to deny his work a living soul indeed and also hard to believe this actually is paper. I have never really worked with it, accept from the kindergarten times when I loved to cut my way into anything, so I'm no expert to judge the potential in this material. Looking at Nishinaka's work you get a feeling that forming paper is the easiest thing, but I think the truth might be slightly different...

Peter Callesen And The Bodies Exhibition

Have you seen The Bodies Exhibition? I have. We went to see it with my ex, during our stay in New York this summer. My feelings about it were mixed, to say the least. Even though it is advertised as your chance to see the real human bodies, stripped to bones and flesh, nothing there seemed like human body to me. More like plastic, unnatural figures from a strange version of Madame Tussauds. Anyways, I was just thinking about it while looking at Peter Callesen papergraphics. They move me and make me think about the nature of human bodies much much more.

Pop-up Card By Daniel Baer

This week seems to be all about amazing paper designs! I don't know what got into me. I should be looking for inspiration in furniture and house decorating, as I'm moving to my new apartment new week. And I haven't even picked out my sofa yet... OK, I found these these beautiful pop-up cards by Daniel Baer at the Grafik Magazine blog.

Yulia Brodskaya

I was talking a lot about papergraphics lately and so I had to check out what's new with Yulia Brodskaya. It seems like she's doing a lot of advertising these days, but I'm glad there's opportunities for amazing projects to be comissioned and paid for by someone.

Peter Callesen

Couple of posts below I wrote about papergraphics by Zim And Zou. Searching for more examples of work based on paper, I found the amazing works by a Danish artist Peter Callesen. Callesen creates his papercuts from a single sheet of paper and all shapes are glued or folded from the scraps he cut out of that one sheet. Three dimensional figures seem to come to live from two dimensional, flat surfaces of the paper, sometimes they are accompanied by modest use of colours or sketches.

Zim And Zou Papergraphics

Do you remember the amazing papergraphics from Yulia Brodskaya? I posted them a while ago and you should have a look here if you've never seen any of her work. And the beautiful designs above, cut out of paper as well, are by Zim And Zou, from the portfolio on Behance. There's more full size photos after the break. Yulia Brodskaya's PAPERgraphics

Yulia Brodskaya is a Russian designer living in the UK. She's mostly known for her incredible "papergraphic" designs - illustrations cut out of paper. She loves to "experiment and explore ways of bringing together all the things she likes most: typography, paper, and highly detailed hand-made craft objects". Her work is full of intricate details, beautiful colours and somehow always puts me in a better mood. I hope it works the same for you.
