Botanic - Visual Concept by From Us With Love

My dearest friend Wisła Nicieja posted that a couple days ago at the Say Hi! To Design's facebook profile. I thought it's charming, taking under consideration that the following stunning visuals were created to promote a new collection of ...weaving vinyl flooring.

Bolon's new Botanic collection is a revolutionary breakthrough, weaving vinyl flooring with environmental care. Botanic contains a new plasticizer which, in turn, is based on renewable raw materials originating from plant extracts. FUWL has created the visual concept around Botanic, reflecting nature’s variety of organic architecture and wealth of detail. Nature photography and handicraft have inspired flowers, herbs and plants in woven vinyl.

Get Hang Of It Bag

Where did all the hangers go...? They're never enough and there isn't one around when you need it! Well, that's about to change. The "get hang of it bag" is made of recycled/recycable paper and cardboard. Rip the two cardboard hangers off the paperbag and your new clothes will find their place in your closet at once.Just "get the hang of it"!

Strange Carafes by Etienne Meneau

Few months ago I mentioned the amazing handmade wine carafes by Etienne Meneau. Upon my last visit to Etienne's blog dedicated to the product, I discovered a new series called Grand Coeur / Big Heart. The previous ones looked like your vascular system, while the new ones are a beautiful representation of heart veins. Simply stunning.

Lauren Cahill - Unwanted Books

My friend's grandfather started a foundation taking care of unwated books. They redistributed the books among small schools libraries, sent the to the Polish people living abroad to cultivate the Polish language, offered them for sale in bulks, based on a chosen subject. I was raised to respect books and the written word so it's hard to throw out books, while there's so many coming my way I simply need to make space for new additions. I was thinking about all that looking at Laura Cahill's pretty amazing objects she'd created from old books....

My idea of using second hand books came around after doing research into common unwanted objects. One of the most common unwanted objects that can be found at either charity shops, car boot sales and sometimes on the streets are books. I discovered that the glue in old books make them extremely difficult to recycle. Aware of this I challenged myself to turn the second hand books that I had been collecting, into desirable objects such as furniture, lighting and ornaments.

Malafor Design

There are so many paper tubes lying around in our studio. We have negatives delivered in them. The printing house we work with has diecuts delivered in them. And I never thought I could have them transformed into bookshelf or magazine holders! Just like the polish studio Malafor. I'm going to come back home tonight with a bag full of them and get the saw in action...

Harvest By Haroshi - Artwork From Recycled Skateboards

Believe it or not, all the items above have been made from recycled skateboards. Designed and made by Harvest By Haroshi they are currently a part of exhibition Skate and Destroy in Tokyo.
via Grafik Magazine and HUH Magazine.

Skate decks eventually see its life shortened by snapping, cracking and/or wearing out. Purchasing new decks is a never ending cycle and this was evident by the tower of old decks that were reaching to the ceiling of my room. We can’t throw away these decks because they hold sentimental meanings to us. I looked at these unusable decks every day and thought there must be something I can make with these.

I decided to make some accessories with the old decks and this was the birth of Harvest. The works of Harvest are through the perspectives of a skater and as an artist. As a skater, I want to take responsibility of reusing skateboards when they were no longer useable. Also, as an artist I want to explore the possibilities of what can be done with skateboards. We see the care and effort that a skater can have for his/her deck and we also acknowledge the origins of a skateboard. We believe that if the small things we do can connect to sustainability then we’re doing something right. We’d be satisfied in our effort when people look at products and start thinking of ways to recycle.

Book Cover For MacBook

Did you ever feel guilty that you abandon reading books in favour of spending more and more time in front of the computer? Now you can pretend you don't. At least when you go out and walk the streets holding you MacBook under your arm. It will seem like you're holding a big, old and presumably very smart book!

Philco PC Retro Design

This asmazing pc was featured on many design websites this week, but I couldn't resist in case any of you had missed it! (I was lucky enough, my cousin brought my attention to it). Lately it seemed the only interesting computer design could be produced by Apple, but hey, here's something even better. Designed by an American studio Schultzworks the Philco PC was inspired by the 1950’s Philco Predicta, a design classic. This original design received Top Three honors in a competition. The keyboard looking like a typewriter? Absolutely it! Oh, there are detailed photos and a videoafter the break. Be smart and continue reading then.

Roland-Garros Chair

For the annual tournament 2009, 5.5 designers reinterpret Roland-Garros in 3 SETS. The tubes of balls are transformed into decanter and glasses ACE and invited on our tables. The wooden traditional rackets are revisited in stools BREAK corded by Laurent Lucas, Roland-Garros official cordeur. And in homage to the mythical scores board which centralizes all the results of the matches, 5.5 draw a domestic board to organize its timetable. Through this collection, the universe Roland-Garros goes out of the stadium and invites itself with elegance in our home: a collection for the fanatics of tennis.

Milk Gone Bad

Two different artistic experiences come together in this project. Anatomicfactory’s objects meet Bombo’s illustrations, giving us food for thought on the ambiguity of products that often have a hidden second nature. “Milk Gone Bad” is a collection of eight lamps somewhere between toys and furnishing complements. Made like milk cartons, each piece is one of a series. The light turns on to show the product’s real contents, a startling imaginary world of mold. Check out the detailed designs after the break.

Bring Your Pub Home

In the dire times of the economy failure, should we give up our social life? Avoid the pubs and restaurants, drying our money resources like the july sun? I say we should be creative and think outside the box (or outside the pub). Why not bring the pub back home? Invite the friends and pull the pints on the dining room table?

No matter how varied your glassware collection is, and no matter how many bags of nuts you've strewn around your home, the one thing that is always missing is beer on tap. The Chambrer Draft Beer Dispenser now provides you with the opportunity to bring the pub experience home!

Sinue's Cradle

the inspiration of { S I N U E } ‘S CRADLE was born when my wife and I have learned that we would become parents. A joy so great always makes something unexpected! We’ve designed the profile of the object by following the line of the belly of my wife Daniela and then we’ve gone ahead using the usual skills to design furniture shipping. The ergonomic shell is made of resin for food (non-toxic), the skin is leather “flower” natural, tanned with vegetable additives, formed by strips sewn by hand with double stitching on sight. Designed by Giovanni RADICCH, via designloft.

Go Bananas - Take Two

My cousin Zuzanna Śmiechowska sent me this lovely banana pocket knive, in addition to my previous post Go Bananas! (you can buy the knive on rossi.pl). Zuzanna like myself is a graphic designer, so there must be a graphic designer gens set running in the family. She's also a photgrapher and I recommend visiting her profile. For me those photos have some sentimental value as well, because I can spot my aunt and uncle, together with my cousins there! Anyways, thanks for the tip, cousin.

The Cooka

As a person who 's backpacking, I am naturally atracted to this idea of a portable stove. Wouldn't it be great to pack this thing up and then use it in any hostel you end up in? So much more independence!

The Cooka placemat stove is created of non-toxic LSR (Liquid Silicon Rubber) that you can roll up and stow away easily. The cooking plates heat up/cool down rapidly with silver thermal conduction. via Design Porn.

Wooden Headphones

I always listen to music - at work, at home, on the bus. I used to do music journalism before diving into the world of design and the passion for music remained. Silence doesn't seem too appealiong to me, I need good tunes in the background. At work I can't listen to all of my favourites, as my co-workers do not share my love for all of the bands, therefore I go for the headphones. Don't these look amazing?

The headphone company The Perfect Unison has partnered with Dutch artist Parra to produce a set of incredibly beautiful wooden headphones. The Perfect Unison x Parra headphones are being made in a limited number – only 50 are being made. The headphones are made of 9 layers of birch and was silkscreen printed by hand by Parra. Envie

Envi was one of the 58 projects (on 1074 entries) shortlisted for the second round of the BraunPrize competition. Designed by Julien Bergignat.

Today, due to climate changes, political issues, social evolution and the emerging markets, we are fighting against the clock with our waste. Design becomes responsible for a green and environment-friendly future more than ever. That’s why today’s designer can be more like an “ecological father” of new ideas, for the next coming generations.

Envi is a foresight urban dustbin, promoting composting from biodegradable waste. It makes waste into nutritious compost for the plant which it carries and lives in harmony with. The big part of the produced compost can be separated from Envi for usage in other occasions.

Gry Fager

This lovely set of ceramics was designed by Gry Fager for Norman Copenhagen. The print used on the tableware comes from a typical tea towel print, present in kitchens all over the world. How cute.
Not only do I like products designed by Gry, but I also thought her website layout was adorable. You can see on the small preview underneath how Gry pictures herself as struggling with designs, small in comparison with her big designers issues! She is obviously the underestimated Cindirella of the design world...
