Shoes by Kobi Levi

Kobi Levi is a shoe designer, but one with exceptional imagination. It's hard to say whether the shoes are actually wearable - some of them look like a challenge - but they must be noticed everywhere you go.

Kobi Levi graduated from Bezalel academy of Art & Design, Jerusalem, in the jewelry and accessories design department. He now specializes in footwear design and development/making. He works as a freelance designer. via virtualshoemuseum

Critique Collective - Discarded Circuit Board Jewelry

I knew you could make jewelry out of a lot of stuff, but computer circuit boards..?

Jewelry_cycle is an educational showcase of wearable treasures made from re-purposed and re-cycled materials. With the idea of an exhibition in mind, co-curators Christine Dhein and Christoph Koch asked the Critique Collective to create wearable art from a variety of small, discarded circuit boards. Circuit boards are commonly made from fiberglass, epoxy resin, and a variety of metals, which is likely to be one third of the material. These metals include copper, silver and gold, which add a precious element to what would otherwise be considered e-waste. These artists discovered the hidden potential, and transformed these materials to create brilliant, sparkling jewels. Photos from & via

Sander Reijgers - Blow-Up Sex Doll Coat

I was looking a collection of items produced from things, that had a previous "life" and a function, and this stood out from the crow. A jacket made of blow-up sex dolls by a Ducth designer Sander Reijgers. A little googling brought me to an article, where he says I customize existing tracksuit tops with parts of the blow-up dolls – the head, the breasts, the vagina, the anus. These dolls are so ugly and vulgar that turning them into something beautiful has become a challenge for me. The doll is a means to convey something else. It's quite an outfit for Friday niught, I have to say. (By the way, it reminded me of the movie Lars and the Real Girl with Ryan Gossling. You should watch it!)

Jil Sander Colourful Lace-Up Shoes

Cobalt has become my favourite colour recently. I have a cobalt sofa, cobalt wall and we're working on a new logo for Versa Design, that will incorporate delicate cobalt touches. Therefore I am going to marry the first guy I see wearing these... By Jil Sander, via materialiste.

Julie Richey - Mosaic Dress

I have been a little blog-idle these past couple of weeks, but things got a bit intense (I do, however, post some interesting things at the SHTD's facebook profile, so make sure you follow us there too).

One thing that keeps me busy at work is the complete change going on at the studio.
One studio consisting of design and prepress departments os now split in two and so the design part gained new identity. We are in the process of designing a new website and whole identity package, which I will share as soon as we finish the constant brainstorming and produce some results.

Apart from work I am preparing to renovate my kitchen, which - strangely enough - brings me back to this post. Did you notice this dress is made from ceramic mosaic? I was going to put mosaic on one of the walls,  but Julie Richey decided ceramic tiles made good enough material for a dress...

Licoreese

Few days ago Anna Pięta sent me a couple of pics encouraging  me to visit her site licoreese.com. It's a mix of things designed by Anna (the lovely hair bands above) as well as her friends (whom I'll mention in another post). Licoreese also sells rare design items found at flea markets. It may seem like a random collection of things at first, but then you start to see a pattern in this madness. Everything you find on the site is unique.

Hunger Pains - Clothing Made of Food

I was finishing my morning round of design pages surfing and getting ready for breakfast, when I noticed these. Obviously some people use food for purposes different then nutrition...
Photos Ted Sabarese. via fantastic.pl

Each model's clothing in the series was made entirely of real food and depicts a meal that the person was craving. This project was shot in January of 2009 (pre Lady Gaga). 15 designers, led by Ami Goodheart of SOTO Productions, were involved and each garment took hours to cook, create and assemble. The artichoke gown was designed by Daniel Feld and Wesley Nault of Project Runway fame. It took over 6 hours to finish (the model stood the entire time while they attached each, individual leaf).

Emil Kozak & Skateboard Design

Here's the thing. I hate winter. I suffer from the lack of sun and there is no amount of clothing that could keep me warm. For a while now I have been looking then for the winter to end, but I think there's at least a couple of months left. Lates take it with dignity then.

This piece was already featured on the facebook profile (have you already visited to Say Hi?), when I looked outside the window and saw more snow piling up. I have already posted some work by Emil Kozak in the past (check it out here), this time lets indulge in his crazy skateboard design.

Jaime Hayon for Camper

As a child, he wanted to become a chef. Then he designed skateboards and t-shirts. Faith, however, had something better in store for him and crossed his paths with Philippe Starck and Benetton's creative director Olivero Toscani. Today, as a renowned designer, he loves to pose for photographs dressed as a giant bunny. Jaime Hayon is a personality in the design world you don't want to miss.

His designs range from furniture to porecelain to toys. But I am a shoe fanatic. Someone who designs for Camper becomes my idol almost by default. Jaime Hayon was assigned to design interior for a Capmer boutique, but (as The Talk puts it) he also designed a few shoes while he was at it. That's some design efficiency. The colourful set of shoes looks like they come from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. They could also serve you for tap dancing.

Kibako - Zipper Jewellery

I'm going to post one more thing about kibako's jewellery (the previous one is a few posts below). The use of zippers obviously reminds me of Kate Cusack, so if you like that check out the post about Kate's designs here and here.

Kibako Grass Jewellery

This unique jewelery was sent to me by Anna Sklodowska, who is also the author of these pieces and owner of kibako – internet gallery showcasing unusual jewellery. Her designs are based on the recycling of everyday objects and materials, as she tries to turn them into something beautiful and different to the original use. She likes bold shapes, often playing with assymetry. The „Grass” collection (above) is made of thin rubber threads that Anna bought at a florist, they immitate grass pretty well. Oh, also an intersting fact – Anna is actually and archologist, but she also works at frescos preservation!

Kotik - Recycled Packaging Jewellery

I was browsing The Dieline for new package design excellence yesterday and I saw these beautiful jewellery pieces by Kotik, presented as an example of unusual way to use packaging. I especially adore the top left one made of Diet Coke caps, for the beautiful clean lines. I would be seriously honoured if someone made jewellery out of my package design... Check out the full size photos after the break.

Patka Smirnow - Jersey Collection

Upon her recent visit to Krakow my friend bought a bag by Patka Smirnow. It is made of used plastic bags, is pretty big and fluffy and I have to admit I was a little jealous, as I was already dreaming of getting one (check the post about Patka's eco bags here). Anyways, what I wanted to say is that I didn't know Patka also made clothes, so it's a nice surprise to see what she's also up to apart from making the unique bags. The jersey collection is funny and a little twisted. The bunny outfit - I'd love to show up dressed in it at a party or two.
