IKEA Cookbook by Forsman & Bonderfors

This must be the best cook book ever...

We wanted to ensure a connection between IKEA's kitchen appliances and one of the best things you can do in a kitchen, some great baking. So the main attraction in the campaign became a 140 page coffee-table baking book presented in a very visually unique and spectacular way. 90% of all the photographs taken in baking books look extremly alike. We wanted to try something different and present the recipes in a totally new fashion.

We let ourselves be inspired by high fashion and japanese minimalism. The idea of the book became to tone down the actual cake and put the ingredients in focus. The recipes are presented as graphic still-life portraits on a warm and colourful stage. And when you turn the page you see the fantastic result.

Botanic - Visual Concept by From Us With Love

My dearest friend Wisła Nicieja posted that a couple days ago at the Say Hi! To Design's facebook profile. I thought it's charming, taking under consideration that the following stunning visuals were created to promote a new collection of ...weaving vinyl flooring.

Bolon's new Botanic collection is a revolutionary breakthrough, weaving vinyl flooring with environmental care. Botanic contains a new plasticizer which, in turn, is based on renewable raw materials originating from plant extracts. FUWL has created the visual concept around Botanic, reflecting nature’s variety of organic architecture and wealth of detail. Nature photography and handicraft have inspired flowers, herbs and plants in woven vinyl.

Hunger Pains - Clothing Made of Food

I was finishing my morning round of design pages surfing and getting ready for breakfast, when I noticed these. Obviously some people use food for purposes different then nutrition...
Photos Ted Sabarese. via fantastic.pl

Each model's clothing in the series was made entirely of real food and depicts a meal that the person was craving. This project was shot in January of 2009 (pre Lady Gaga). 15 designers, led by Ami Goodheart of SOTO Productions, were involved and each garment took hours to cook, create and assemble. The artichoke gown was designed by Daniel Feld and Wesley Nault of Project Runway fame. It took over 6 hours to finish (the model stood the entire time while they attached each, individual leaf).

Kate Cusack & Julia Pogodina

Last September I had a short post on the amazing jewelry (made entirely of zippers) by Kate Cusack. Ever since discovering her unique fashion accessories, I try to follow Kate's work process on her blog - Kate's Update. The thing I wanted to share with you today however, isn't very recent and includes photos by Russian photographer Julia Pogodina. Julia was born and raised in Saint Petersburg and moved to New York to pursue her career in fashion photography (which she started while working full time as a corporate lawyer). Last year she made a photoshoot with Kate's jewelery, which apparently was widely discussed and commented for featuring an aged model - Candace Woodward. Personally I think the model looks stunning and I can't imagine the jewelry looking better on any celebrity or young and anorectic model. There's something about her rather unhappy face, the sad eye, beautiful hair...

If you want to learn a little bit more about Kate and Julia read interviews with them at afingo (Kate) and copiousmagazine (Julia). And follow up after the break to see the rest of the photos and read Julia's reaction to the comments on the session.

Delicious Food Packaging Photos

Couple of posts ago I mentioned bar codes as an integral part of the design. But what's more important than the right photography? Imagery used for the project can make or brake the design...
These definitely proved the packaging sucessfull - from designs by Cowan Melbourne and Mousegraphics.

Eliza Logan In Cafeocean

Back in June I wrote a little post about my friend Eliza Logan, known as Francis Poland. I'm hoping one day I'll own one of her paintings, but she's also an incredible photographer. As I was browsing through Issuu the other day, I found an article about Eliza in Cafeocean - she's just that good. The picture above captures her portraits, but you can also browse the whole issue of the magazine with the Issuu browser embeded after the break (just click on the "continue" link below).

Oleg Dou Photography

Going through the recent issue of Machina Design I stopped the moment I saw these photos. I was mesmerized. There's something really disturbing about them, the way all the humanity was somehow erased from them, leaving the models looking like characters from a movie about AI. Oleg Dou, Russian photographer and author of these, won numerous awards for his work, however I'm not sure it should be qualified as photography or photoshop / collage manipulation. Whatever it is though, it's hard to walk past by it staying indifferent. Make sure you see other photos after the break. Please.

Jiggery Pokery

I'm not quite sure which label should I apply for this, but we'll go with photography just because the arrangement was pictured so beautiful... I found it at the Jiggery Pokery portfolio at the ycn agency website. There's one more photo after the break, so make sure you follow the link.

The Talking Horse

There's a Chumbawamba song I really like, called "Everything you know is wrong". It starts with an audio clip that goes like this:  It's like the time that this, uh, minister in Indiana claimed that the theme song for Mr. Ed, that old television show about the talking horse - if you played the Mr. Ed theme song backwards it said "Satan is the source". I just wanted to say these photos by Julian Wolkenstein remind me of that audio clip...

Photo Memories From Iran

Hello again! Having rested a whole month this summer, I am now back to hard work. No more holidays this year, unfortunately... Trying to save the holiday spirit though, as well as the dreams of my future travels, I am watching photos by my friend - Adam Musiał - from his recent trip to Iran. You should check out his flickr profile to see the full set of beautiful photographs from Iran, but also Iraqi Kurdistan and Morocco. I love the way they capture the everyday life in parts of the world that seem so exotic to us.

I Live To Fall Asleep

These photos reminds me of my favourite Manic Street Preachers song: I live to fall asleep... It could easily become my lifetime motto. So many beautiful things happen in my dreams! Please don't wake me, no don't shake me, leave me where I am, I'm only sleeeping...
Photographs by Julian Wolkenstein.
